Seven Stones, Seven Colours: The Natural Stones on LuKra Collars

Every LuKra collar carries one small natural stone, and there are seven to choose from. Laid side by side they run from warm red through green and blue to violet, then clear and black, which is exactly why we chose them: seven colours that each look good on black or taupe leather. Here is each stone, what gives it its colour, and how to choose.

You may have seen this same row of colours on a yoga chakra chart. We chose the stones for their colour alone.

The seven stones, by colour

Red: red agate

A banded, translucent form of microcrystalline quartz. Its warm red comes from traces of iron oxide. Common sources include Brazil, Uruguay and India.

Golden brown: tiger’s eye

Quartz that replaced fibrous minerals as it formed, which leaves a band of light that glides across the surface when the stone moves. South Africa is the classic source.

Green: green aventurine

Quartz with tiny flakes of mica that catch the light, giving a soft green shimmer. India is a well-known source.

Blue: aquamarine

A pale blue-green beryl, coloured by iron, and one of the hardest stones in the set at 7.5 to 8 on the Mohs scale. Found in Brazil and parts of Africa and Asia.

Violet: amethyst

Purple quartz, from lilac to deep violet. Its colour comes from traces of iron and natural radiation. Brazil, Uruguay and Zambia are major sources. Long hours in strong sun can fade it.

Clear: clear quartz

Quartz in its purest form, colourless and bright. Found worldwide.

Black: obsidian

Volcanic glass that cooled too fast to form crystals. Glossy black and a little softer than quartz, so we only use it smoothly polished.

How to choose

Pick the colour you like seeing every day. On black leather, clear quartz and aquamarine stand out the most; on taupe, amethyst, tiger’s eye and red agate add a warm accent. Think about your pet’s coat too: a pale stone on dark fur, or a dark stone on light fur, is easy to spot. Not sure? Our quiz suggests one in a few questions.

Every stone is a little different

Because they are natural, no two stones share exactly the same shade or pattern. A few cloudy patches, a band of colour or a fleck of shimmer are part of what makes each one yours.
